A permit is required for commercial filming in the City of Atlanta. Permit requirements are not based on the size of the project. If filming on private property, send an email to atlfilm@atlantaga.gov before submitting your application.
A filming permit is required if your project includes any of the following:
• Filming on public or private property
• Filming requiring setup of barricades, street closure, lane closure, or sidewalk closure
• Night-time filming in a residential area with the use of an outdoor light
• Use of a temporary structure, such as a stage
• Use of intellectual property belonging to the City
• Pyrotechnics or other explosives
• Smoke effects, water effects, or flame effects
• Display of real or artificial firearms
• Vehicle chases and/or crashes
• Dangerous stunts
• Use of any equipment that may cause damage to public property
• Use of wild animals regulated by law

Application Fee:
• Students – $25, per application
• Non-students – $100, per application
Utilize the link below to view the permitting fee schedule. There will be a $100 cancellation fee once our office begins to process the permit. Applications received before 4 PM normally begin processing on that business day. If received after 4 PM, processing usually begins the next business day.
It takes a minimum of 5 business days to completely process an application. An invoice for payment, sent by email, indicates application approval pending payment. If there is an issue with approving the application, you will be contacted by phone or email.
How to Pay the Permit Fee?
Once application is approved you will receive an invoice by email. You can click on the invoice and pay directly. Accepted payments: All Major Credit Cards and Checks. For more information on how to pay your invoice please send all inquires by email to: Atlfilm@atlantaga.gov.
NOTE: Commercial filming in the City of Atlanta without a permit is prohibited. Ramifications for filming without a permit are handled by the Atlanta Police Department and Atlanta Mayor's Office of Film and Entertainment. Both parties have the authority to shut down your production and ask you to immediately vacate the premises.
